Wendy Makepeace Browne, Director of Relish People Ltd and member of the XL Foundation, (an organisation committed to helping businesses become successful so that they can give back more to society), joined the recent trip to India to understand how the project is helping women locally.
Wendy says “It was a huge experience, showing India from its highest wealth to its lowest poverty. It was my personal ambition to be able to support something like this and I gained a much greater understanding of how the Caste system in India works, the challenges it faces and the fact that nothing is a quick fix, no matter how much we here in the West want to ‘fix it’. My biggest realisation was that some of their key issues are very similar to our own, it is just that they are clearly more visible – issues such as homelessness, alcoholism and domestic violence”.
Relish People Ltd, a local personal development company, has foundations built on strong ethical values and supporting the Hunger Project fits well into their own Corporate Social Responsibility portfolio. For more information on the Hunger Project, check out the website www.thp.org
